Coronavirus kept Santa from making his traditional appearance in the Reading Holiday Parade this year, but they made up for on Friday by touring the city in a fire truck.

Santa Claus visited neighborhoods on Friday, December 18, 2020, in a caravan by the Reading Police and Fire Department.

The journey began at Schlegel Park and traveled through Oakbrook, Millmont, 3rd and Spruce, Baer Park, Glenside, 11th and Pike, down 13th through City Park and back to Schlegel Park.

The Reading Recreation Commission distributed about 500 Holiday Gift Bags with goodies for kids in coordination with Friday’s meal and pantry box distribution and Santa’s visit.

Holiday Bags were filled by several area organizations, including employees of the Reading Hospital with hygiene products, Godiva and the Pagoda Foundation with candies, Wood to Wonderful with toys, Bausman Memorial Church with hats, the Reading Public Library with books and the Reading Recreation Commission with socks.

People were very excited, not only kids but also adults.
